Jonway EV Unveils Record-Breaking Solar Roof Project in Micro EV Sector
This 6.8MW rooftop solar power system, set to crown the factory roof, is a first-of-its-kind move in this niche market.
Jonway EV’s 6.8MW rooftop solar power system at its Pei County, China factory dwarfs others in the L-category micro-EV space, covering 70,000 m² with a RMB 15 million (USD 2 million) investment.
When finished by May 2025, it’ll deliver 6.5 million kWh annually, saving 2,210 tons of coal and cutting 5,850 tons of CO2—matching 292,500 trees planted.
That’s like pulling over 1,400 diesel vans and trucks (under 3.5 tons GVW) off the road annually.
Jonway EV, the fastest-growing name in L-category micro electric passenger vehicles and electric commercial vehicles, signed a deal with developer Hongri Photovoltaic Co., Ltd. on October 30, 2024. This 6.8MW rooftop solar power system, set to crown the factory roof, is a first-of-its-kind move in this niche market.
This ambitious project rolls out in two phases: an initial 2MW system launches in April of this year, followed by a 4.8MW expansion by the end of May 2025 with surplus-to-grid connection. The factory rooftop, spanning 70,000 m²—roughly 10 football fields—will turn into a clean energy powerhouse, using high-quality domestic solar panels and powerful inverters. Once running, it’ll deliver 6.5 million kWh of clean energy yearly.
To put this into perspective, Jonway EV’s 6.8MW solar installation surpasses other notable projects in the automotive industry, including Ford UK’s 5.2MWp array, Mercedes-Benz Turkey’s 5MW system, and Bentley’s 5MW rooftop solar setup. This positions Jonway EV as a leader in green manufacturing within the EV sector.
“To construct 6.8MW of solar system within 2 months is challenging, but completing it with complex logistics required significant collaboration JonwayEV,” said a representative from Hongri Photovoltaic Co., Ltd.
The system saves 2,210 tons of coal annually and trims 5,850 tons of CO2. It’s the equivalent of planting 292,500 trees or removing over 1,400 diesel vans and trucks under 3.5 tons GVW—vehicles all too familiar in this sector.

This solar project adds a strong selling point for customers seeking environmentally responsible solutions. Jonway EV’s commitment to sustainability strengthens its market position and resonates deeply with partners and end-customers alike.
For Jonway, this isn’t just power—it’s proof. “We’re setting a pace others will struggle to match,” Chairman Alex Wang said calmly. Starting Q3’25, every vehicle rolling out from the factory will carry the weight of this cleaner upgrade. The message is clear: sustainable manufacturing is not an option.
This move signals something bigger, too—a shift toward a sustainable ecosystem that covers every step of the manufacturing process. As Jonway EV keeps growing, this solar leap shows it’s not just keeping pace with the green revolution—it’s leading it.
